Innovative South Staffordshire Plc businesses win 2023 Utility Week Award
Cambridge Water, together with South Staffordshire Plc’s engineering businesses, have been awarded the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Initiative of the Year Award.
We are delighted to announce our Group Businesses Cambridge Water, OnSite and Integrated Water Services (IWS) M&E, and client Imperial War Museum Duxford (IWM), have been jointly recognised in a prestigious utility sector awards programme.
The Utility Week Awards celebrate the resilience and innovation within the utility sector. They recognise the positive and progressive contributions made by UK utility companies and their supply chain partners.
The Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Initiative of the Year Award was a new category for 2023, with entries highlighting the wider impact utilities can have on the communities they operate in as well as their role as stewards of the environment and their wider responsibilities as socially-conscious companies. This award celebrates companies that are going beyond regulatory requirements and can show both ambition and impact over the past 12 months.
Cambridge Water, South Staffordshire Plc’s engineering businesses OnSite and IWS M&E, and IWM Duxford collaborated to design and build a low carbon ground source heating concept for the IWM site using heat extracted from the water company’s existing onsite borehole.
OnSite and IWS M&E have designed and are installing the solution which includes pipework and the plant room, and have future-proofed the design so the scheme is resilient and can eventually deliver low carbon heat across the entire site.
The ground source heating project is forecast to deliver a 74% carbon reduction for IWM, which equates to eliminating around 429 CO2te/year. The IWM will also benefit from a 77% energy reduction, which equates to using around 1550 MWh less per year.
Held at the spectacular Grosvenor Hotel in London, the winners were announced at a Gala Awards Ceremony on Tuesday 5 December. The utility industry came together to enjoy an evening filled with inspiring initiatives and to recognise its’ resilience and innovation in 2023.
